There is much discussion about the dangers of artificial intelligence and nuclear weapons these days. Indeed, the Vatican recently hosted a global conference on the topic that featured Nobel-prize winning scholars, experts on AI, and proponents of nuclear disarmament debating the threat.

This conference was merely the latest example of the current discourse on the dangers of AI and nuclear weapons. Of particular concern is the intersection of AI and nuclear command and control, and the fear that AI will undermine strategic stability between the nuclear powers. As retired Lt. Gen. John Shanahan wrote in 2025, incorporating AI into nuclear command and control processes:
