There was a lot to dissect this week as President Donald Trump once again took aim at federal guidance on childhood vaccines with an executive order. And once again his pitch was unsettling for people who care about public health. 

Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, a physician, said: “I’m a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes. Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism.”
