Like an apparently dead victim at the end of a slasher film who rises once again for a final jump scare, Phil Murphy has reached out from his post-governorship life to kick New Jersey Democrats right where it hurts one last time.

Murphy, who ended his two terms as governor in January, spent his final years in office stripping Democratic Party leaders of their chief ballot advantage, cozying up to Donald Trump as Trump sought reelection, and attempting to install his wife as a U.S. senator no matter what Democratic voters wanted.
