Officials at Arkansas’ busiest airport are hopeful they’ll be the first in the nation to secure a federal infrastructure program loan for a terminal expansion they say is needed to meet growing demand.

Northwest Arkansas National Airport has spent nearly a year applying for the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act program, which provides credit assistance for qualified projects of regional and national significance, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
