Presumptive Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Troy Jackson announced he’s raised more than $1 million since he entered the race earlier this month.Â
That’s essentially equivalent to the totalhe’d raisedthroughout his previous months-long bid to be the Democratic gubernatorial nominee. However, it is still a far cry from the $11 million cash on hand incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins reported as of the last filing deadline.
Since launching his bid for U.S. Senate, Jackson has received 27,283 contributions from 24,669 individual donors, according to his campaign, which did not respond to questions about these donations, such as the state of origin or average size. Â
Over $613,000 of the more than $1 million his Senate campaign has raised came in since Sunday, which is when it became apparent Jackson had secured the majority of delegates that will be officially selecting the new nominee on Saturday in Bangor.Â
The Maine Democratic Party decided to replace Platner through a convention of 601 delegates —500 chosen from the countiesand 101 being members of the party’s state committee. Of the 500 chosen from each county over the weekend, 478 are aligned with Jackson, based on a comparison of the results and a list of supportive delegates Jackson’s campaign released.Â
However, delegates are not pledged to any one candidate and can vote for whoever they’d like to at the convention. Onlytwo other contendersremain in the running: David Costello and Saundra Pelletier.
The latest state campaign finance filings due Tuesday show Jackson still has about$156,000 cash on hand for his gubernatorial campaign, however by law he isbarred from using any of that moneyin his new bid for a federal office.
