Montana tourism continues to thrive this summer. In July visitor spending in Whitefish alone reached a record $15.65 million. In the hope of sparing some other unsuspecting visitor my pain, I share my last tourist experience there.
MISSOULA, Mont. – A hiker was safely found in the McCormick Peak area by Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputies early Monday morning on July 27.
Park County, Montana, sheriff’s officials said search-and-rescue crews and multiple partner agencies responded to three separate incidents over several days in July 2026, including rescues of a woman on the Suce Creek Trail, a missing hiker in Tom Miner Basin, and a man found in the Yellowstone River near Mission Creek.
Sponsored by the Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives, the hikes, from beginner to moderate, all start at 9 a.m. on Thursdays and will continue through Sept. 3.
