The Atlanta Gladiators, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators and the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals, announced Thursday that forward Alex Young has been traded to the Rapid City Rush for future considerations.
Young, 25, had a career year last season, leading the Gladiators in goals and points, netting 27 goals and 32 assists for 59 points in 72 games. In six games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, Young scored 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points.
The Calgary, AB, native has spent the first three seasons of his professional career in the ECHL, amassing 42 goals and 55 assists for 97 points in 133 games with the Atlanta Gladiators and the Adirondack Thunder. He was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 7th round (196th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft and played collegiately at Colgate University and Arizona State prior to turning pro in 2024.
“Alex was a big part of our success last season, and it obviously hurts losing a player of his caliber. However, the ECHL is a developmental league, and we are proud to have helped Alex take the next step in his career,” said Gladiators’ Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Matt Ginn. “He was offered an AHL contract, and we worked out a trade to send his rights to their ECHL affiliate. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right thing to do, and we wish Alex the best of luck moving forward."
The season begins on October 17 at Gas South Arena when the Gladiators host the Norfolk Admirals.
