Former Missouri players returned to the court Sunday as Sean East II, John Tonje, Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates all saw action during another full day of NBA Summer League competition.
East opened the day for the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 103-94 loss to the Detroit Pistons. The former Tiger played eight minutes and scored four points on 2-of-3 shooting. He missed his lone 3-point attempt and added a steal while continuing to make the most of limited opportunities off the bench.
Boston followed with an 87-75 victory over the Charlotte Hornets behind another productive outing from John Tonje.
Tonje made his second straight start and continued his strong scoring stretch, finishing with 17 points in 28 minutes. The former Tiger shot 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, while adding five rebounds and a steal. He also went 1-of-3 at the free-throw line.
Through two Summer League games, Tonje has established himself as one of Boston's most reliable offensive options. He has consistently found open looks from deep while showing confidence attacking the basket and scoring within the flow of the offense.
Fellow former Tiger Caleb Grill made his Summer League debut for the Celtics, checking in for the final minute of the contest.
The final of the Missouri alumnus to take the floor was Tamar Bates as the Utah Jazz fell 104-82 to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Bates finished with five points on a perfect 2-of-2 from the field, including a make from 3-point range, in 17 minutes. He also recorded five rebounds and one assist.
For the second straight appearance, Bates looked comfortable on the floor. He played with patience, made quick decisions with the ball and continued to score efficiently without forcing shots. His movement off the ball and steady play have stood out through the opening games of Summer League.
