TEXARKANA, Ark. — The Texarkana Arkansas Board of Directors approved a new policy governing the use of artificial intelligence to ensure government data remains protected and accurate.
Under the new guidelines, city staff must vet all AI tools and fact-check all content produced by the software before it is released to the public. Officials said the primary goal of the policy is to save time on daily tasks while remaining in compliance with new state laws mandated to protect government data.
City employees currently utilize AI tools, such as Google Gemini, to reduce workloads regarding data analytics. The new policy requires the chief information officer to vet every AI engine used by the city.
While city leaders stressed that these tools are efficient, they emphasized that human staff must verify all software output for accuracy.
