Coe College will offer a new, reduced-credit degree program starting this fall for adult learners looking to expand their business education.
The Cedar Rapids private college announced in a news release Tuesday it has received Higher Learning Commission approval to launch its reduced-credit bachelor’s degree in business administration. According to the release, the program was designed with working learners in mind and has a concentration in strategic leadership.
“This degree offers working adults maximum flexibility and a faster path to degree completion, all while delivering the high standard of academic excellence and prestige Coe College is known for,” said Coe College Provost Angela Ziskowski in the release.
Unlike accelerated degrees, which fit four years’ worth of courses into three years of instruction, the release stated the reduced-credit business administration program requires 96 credit hours to be taken through 24 online classes. Community college credits previously earned by students can also apply to the degree.
Courses will be offered in eight-week sessions during Coe College’s fall, spring and summer semesters, the college states online. Students will learn about foundational areas of business like management, finance and marketing, the release stated, as well as strategic thinking, communication and “culture building.”
Coe College joins Upper Iowa University in offering a reduced-credit degree program, and Iowa’s public universities are working on their own 90-95-credit bachelor of applied professional studies program.
“We’re taking the personalized approach we know is transformative and extending it online,” said Coe College President David Hayes in a June news release announcing the program while approval was pending. “Our offering will be a signature Coe experience, providing individualized education and career guidance, and one that you can access on your own time.”
