SHREVEPORT, La. — Thousands of students across Caddo Parish head back to the classroom Monday morning to mark the official start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Teachers and administrators across the district spent the end of last week in professional development sessions preparing campuses for the arrival of students. District officials say classrooms, buses, and support staff are fully prepared to welcome kids back to school.

Families of prekindergarten and kindergarten students will follow staggered start schedules and receive direct notification from individual schools regarding their initial days of class.

Caddo Parish is not the only district launching its academic calendar this week. Several other area school districts are back in class beginning Monday, including Natchitoches Parish, Marshall ISD, and DeQueen Public Schools.

Several neighboring systems in Northwest Louisiana returned to session slightly earlier. Bossier, DeSoto Parish, and Webster students started classes last week.

With buses back on the roads, local traffic officials remind drivers to use caution in school zones, obey flashing speed limits, and stop for loading and unloading school buses during morning and afternoon commutes.
