SHREVEPORT, La. – Charges have been upgraded against the man police say killed a woman, caused another man’s death and injured several others in a crime spree Thursday afternoon.
Thomas Lemons, 23, is charged with second-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, manslaughter and simple criminal damage to property. He was moved Sunday from the Shreveport City Jail to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he's held on a $1.1 million bond.
Lemons was initially charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Imunique Williams, 22.
He’s now also charged with manslaughter for allegedly causing the crash that led to the death of Chuckie Brooks, 57.
The attempted murder charges stem from the random gunfire that injured other people in the area.
Police said the deadly rampage started after Lemons’ mother reportedly went to check on him after being concerned about his wellbeing.
Police said Lemons started shooting at his mother before she got into the car with Williams and another woman. They sped away with Lemons repeatedly firing at the car as he pursued them through the neighborhood.
Williams’ car crossed into oncoming traffic near the intersection of Vernon Street and Linwood Avenue, where it hit another vehicle. The driver, Chuckie Brooks, 57, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but died later that night at the hospital.
Officers said Williams’ car was riddled with bullets. She was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
Lemons got out of his car and began firing his gun at passing vehicles and people in the area, police said. Three other people were hit by the random gunfire.
Lemons was arrested at the scene then taken to the hospital to be checked out before he was jailed.
