SHREVEPORT, La. — Authorities are investigating a deadly collision involving an SUV and a Union Pacific cargo train near the intersection of Flournoy Lucas Road and Buncombe Road.
Shreveport Police Department officers dispatched to the scene Sunday, July 12, at approximately 9:28 p.m. following reports of the crash.
Emergency responders discovered a severely damaged red Lincoln Navigator on the north side of the tracks. The driver, identified as a 45-year-old Shreveport woman, was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Shreveport Police Department Crash Investigation Unit is handling the case due to the severity of the wreck.
According to preliminary findings, the woman was driving southbound on Buncombe Road when her vehicle bypassed the lowered railroad crossing arms. The SUV then struck a cargo car of the passing train.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the driver to go around the safety gates. Officials said more updates will be provided as the investigation continues.Â
