SHREVEPORT L.A - A Texas man is facing a record number of charges after a joint operation by Shreveport police and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Police say Joseph Holcomb crossed state lines to meet someone he had been communicating with online, not knowing he was walking into an undercover operation.
"He contacted someone who he thought reasonably believed to be underage. Subsequently came from Texas and met us," said a Shreveport police Vice Unit officer.Â
The officer, who cannot reveal his identity because he is undercover, says once investigators searched Holcomb's devices, they found 260 images of child sexual abuse material and A.I. generated child pornography, as well as images of bestiality involving children.
"We are seeing a lot more A.I. generated C-SAM. I think it was last year, the state had to come up with a state code so we could charge these people with it," the officer said.
Lawmakers passed that statute last year, allowing authorities to prosecute A.I. based crimes, which Holcomb could face up to 99 years in prison for.
The officer says partnering with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force helped catch Holcomb.
"Just to have that asset here, it's invaluable to be able to, you know, start targeting these individuals who have an interest and, you know, look up these things online," he said.
The officer also has a warning for parents about online safety.
"Be cognizant of what your children are posting online. Predators are everywhere. I have one I'm working right now. He met a victim on Fortnite," he said.
Predators can also be teachers, coaches or even family members.
Holcomb remains behind bars as the investigation continues.
