ATLANTA, Texas — An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after police say a man pointed a firearm at vehicles along Loop 59 Friday afternoon.

According to Police Chief Restelle, Atlanta Police Department and Queen City Police Department responded at about 1:34 p.m. to reports of an armed individual. During the encounter, an officer discharged a department-issued firearm, hitting the suspect.

Officers provided immediate medical aid at the scene before the man was transported to a Texarkana hospital for further treatment. No officers were injured.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation. Officials say it remains active and ongoing, with additional information expected as it becomes available.
