MANSURA, La. — While the ArkLaTex was spared the worst impacts of Tropical Storm Arthur, communities across south and central Louisiana continue to face significant challenges from flooding and storm damage.

Among the hardest-hit areas is Avoyelles Parish, where rising waters damaged homes, displaced families and disrupted daily life for hundreds of residents. In response, the American Red Cross has mobilized disaster relief teams to provide emergency assistance and support recovery efforts throughout the parish.
The American Red Cross Louisiana has established supply distribution sites and opened an emergency shelter in Mansura, providing a safe place for residents forced from their homes by floodwaters. Volunteers are distributing meals, cleanup kits, water, hygiene supplies and other essential items to families impacted by the storm.
"Our mission is to ensure families have a safe place to stay and access to critical resources as they begin the recovery process," Red Cross officials said.
Shelter operations continue
At the shelter in Mansura, Red Cross volunteers are providing around-the-clock support, including meals, health services, emotional support and recovery planning assistance. Disaster responders are also conducting damage assessments throughout affected communities to determine additional needs and help connect residents with available resources.
The shelter has become a hub for both immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts, serving residents from across Avoyelles Parish as they navigate the aftermath of flooding.

Jeff Landry met with Red Cross leadership, volunteers and affected residents at the Avoyelles Parish shelter, thanking responders for their service and discussing the state's continuing recovery efforts.
North Louisiana Red Cross leadership joined local, state and parish officials during the visit, highlighting the collaborative effort underway to help families recover from the disaster.
Volunteers needed
As recovery operations continue, the American Red Cross is seeking additional volunteers to support relief efforts across Louisiana. Opportunities include shelter staffing, damage assessment teams, supply distribution, client services and disaster recovery support.

Helping communities recover
Although floodwaters may eventually recede, recovery often continues for weeks and months after a disaster. Red Cross teams remain committed to helping Avoyelles Parish residents rebuild and recover by providing shelter, resources and compassionate support during a difficult time.
Residents needing assistance or individuals interested in volunteering can contact the American Red Cross Louisiana Region for additional information.
