SHREVEPORT, La. — Local teens and tweens can learn the basics of digital media production this summer during a free program at a Shreveport library.
The Shreve Memorial Library David Raines Branch is launching "Planting the Seeds of Storytelling," a six-week creative workshop series tailored for youth ages 11 to 17. Tied to the library's Summer Reading Program theme, "Plant a Seed, Read!," the initiative aims to help participants develop creative concepts and technical skills. The weekly sessions run every Monday from June 8 through July 13, running from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the branch located at 2855 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
Throughout the course, students will receive hands-on instruction in scriptwriting, photography, lighting, audio engineering, and video editing. The curriculum also covers podcasting and video production, allowing attendees to create individual pieces while collaborating on a group short film.
The program is open to the public on a walk-in basis, and pre-registration is not required. While organizers prefer that participants attend the entire six-week block, perfect attendance is not mandatory. No previous media production experience is necessary to join.
The workshop series is produced in partnership with local multimedia creator Jimmie R. Bryant II. The program will conclude with a community showcase and screening, where friends and family can view the completed student projects.
