Shreveport, Downtown Development Authority partner to launch strategic retail survey

The survey is part of a broader initiative with Downtown Strategies, a division of Retail Strategies. The overall effort will include discovery and research, market analysis, a review of existing plans, stakeholder input, a strategic visioning process, and the creation of a roadmap for attracting businesses that reflect the needs and energy of residents, workers, visitors, and investors.

The public survey will give residents, business owners, property owners, downtown employees, visitors, and community partners an opportunity to share what they value about Downtown Shreveport, what challenges they see, and what improvements they believe would have the greatest impact. Feedback from the survey will help shape priorities related to downtown vibrancy, business growth, tourism, walkability, design, redevelopment, and quality of place.

The planning effort comes at an important moment for downtown Shreveport. With major private investment underway, including G-Unit’s growing presence and the expansion of Bally’s casino, city and downtown leaders believe this is the right time to align public input, private investment, and practical implementation around a shared vision for downtown’s future.

“Downtown Shreveport is one of our city’s greatest assets, and this is the right time to build on the momentum we’re seeing,” said Mayor Tom Arceneaux. “We want to hear directly from the people who live, work, invest, and spend time downtown so we can focus on practical improvements that will strengthen downtown for years to come.”

City leaders said the partnership between the city and the DDA reflects a shared commitment to re-energizing downtown Shreveport as a hub for commerce, entertainment, tourism, housing, culture and civic life. This collaborative effort will guide future recruitment initiatives and is part of the DDA’s effort to update the Downtown 2010 Redevelopment Strategy.

“Downtown Shreveport is at an important point in its development, and this planning process gives us an opportunity to build on the momentum we are seeing today,” said Cedric B. Glover, Executive Director of the Downtown Development Authority. “The most effective plans are shaped by the people who live, work, invest, and spend time in Downtown Shreveport. We encourage everyone who has a connection to downtown Shreveport to participate in the survey and help identify priorities that will guide our work as downtown Shreveport continues to rise.”

The survey is anonymous and will be available online through the City of Shreveport, the Downtown Development Authority, the Greater Shreveport Chamber, and other community platforms. The City and DDA encourage anyone who lives, works, visits, invests, or has an interest in Downtown Shreveport to participate.
