BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana State Superintendent Cade Brumley called on school leaders to maintain strict classroom discipline and enforce anti-bullying laws in a letter sent to local superintendents Monday.
Brumley wrote that unruly classrooms and disruptive students hinder learning and damage the academic environment for all children. He urged principals and teachers to maintain orderly learning spaces as the new school year approaches.
The letter highlighted House Resolution 333, passed during the recent legislative session, which directs school systems to fully enforce the state's existing anti-bullying statutes.
Brumley connected his call for order to recent statewide academic improvements. Louisiana moved from 49th place in 2019 to 32nd place in national rankings on The Nation's Report Card. The state also earned top rankings on the Education Scorecard from Harvard, Stanford, and Dartmouth, placing first in reading growth and second in math growth.
Brumley stated that structured, orderly environments remain essential to sustain student achievement and build on recent academic progress.
