TEXARKANA, Texas - A chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in a fiery crash Wednesday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a 17-year-old driver.
According to authorities, Officer Joe Rochelle spotted a 2025 Hyundai that had been reported stolen out of Texarkana, Ark., near the intersection of West 8th Street and Whitaker Street. Rochelle, along with Officer Matthew Lindsey, attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Lake Drive.
Police said the driver initially pulled over, but moments later accelerated away, prompting a brief pursuit.
The chase came to an abrupt end when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole.
The Hyundai immediately caught fire. The driver and passenger were able to escape the burning vehicle before emergency responders arrived. The driver, identified as London Richardson, 17, and her 15-year-old passenger suffered only minor injuries.
During the investigation, officers reportedly discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. Richardson was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Bi-State Jail.
Authorities also determined Richardson had an outstanding felony warrant for theft of a firearm.
She has been charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, evading arrest with a vehicle, possession of marijuana and theft of a firearm in connection with the outstanding warrant.
