TEXARKANA, Texas — Residents are calling on the Texarkana City Council to disable "Flock cameras" and terminate the city’s contract with Flock Safety, an AI-powered license plate reader provider.

Critics argue the technology poses significant privacy risks, joining a growing national movement that has seen roughly 50 cities cancel similar contracts. While courts have consistently ruled that license plate readers do not violate Fourth Amendment protections, privacy advocacy groups like "Deflock" maintain that existing laws are insufficient to govern such rapidly evolving surveillance technology. City officials have not yet announced plans to suspend the use of the devices.
