AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Education Agency has released its report card for Texas schools with the 2026 A-F accountability ratings.
Just over 1,200 districts and 9,105 campuses were rated in 2026. The report states 24% of districts and campuses saw an increase in rating compared to 2025.
There were 585 campuses across Texas showing improved from below an A to an A rating in 2026. In total, 85% of campuses that received an A-F rating statewide achieved acceptable academic performance (C or above).
A-F Ratings provide clear, accessible information on school and district performance, serving as an essential tool for parents, educators, policymakers, and local communities to make informed decisions that support student success.
“This year’s A-F ratings illustrate the progress Texas public schools are making and acknowledge the hard work of our educators while illuminating areas of needed improvement to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education. Through our commitment to transparency and accessibility, parents and the public can explore the ratings and associated resources to understand the performance of their schools clearly,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath.
Texas’ accountability system gives all campuses the ability to earn high ratings no matter where students begin. 49% of high-poverty campuses that received an A-F rating earned an A or B rating in 2026, up from 47% last year, while the percentage of F-rated campuses declined
The A–F Accountability System was established in 2017 by the 85th Texas Legislature through House Bill (HB) 22 to provide clear and consistent information on how schools are performing in three key areas: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.
Designed to drive continuous improvement, the A-F system helps ensure that all students, regardless of background, have access to a high-quality education that prepares them for success after graduation. A-F ratings help educators and school systems celebrate successes and focus support where it is needed most, while the A–F Accountability System is structured to balance rigor, fairness, and transparency, establishing goals for preparing students for postsecondary success while acknowledging their effort and progress.
