EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - Two airmen with ties to Barksdale Air Force Base have been identified among the eight people killed in Monday's B-52 crash at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Friends, family members and fellow service members have identified Lt. Col. Greg Watson of Haughton and Lt. Col. Gabriel Estrella as being aboard the bomber when it crashed during a test flight through posts shared on social media.
Watson served as commander of the 343rd Bomb Squadron and was widely remembered in online tributes as a respected leader and mentor.
Estrella, a Weapons Systems Officer, was described by his wife as a devoted husband and father who "died doing what he loved."
Tributes continue to pour in across social media as the military community mourns the loss.
Also among those identified were Lt. Col. Miles Middleton and Jeromy Smith, a civilian flight-test engineer with the Department of Defense.
The Air Force is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.Â
