The CEO of a Troy therapy center where a five-year-old was killed in a hyperbaric chamber fire is pursuing an appeal after an Oakland County judge denied a request to quash a second-degree murder charge.

Following the 2025 death of Thomas Cooper, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed charges against Oxford Center CEO Tamela Peterson and three of the center’s employees, arguing they had ignored strict safety protocols published by the manufacturer of the hyperbaric chamber and the National Fire Protection Association.
