The University of Michigan has selected a 144-acre site in Ypsilanti Township for the development of a research computing center in partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Updates
Representing Kathryn Haushalter of Saline Township, attorney Ellis Boal sent a letter to the Michigan State Tax Commission asking them to deny a tax abatement for the 250 acre data center project under development in the Washtenaw County community. In his letter, Boal argues the Saline Township Board of Trustees failed to complete a crucial step needed for the facility to qualify for the requested tax break.
The City of Wixom is taking steps to update its zoning ordinances amid a 180-day data center moratorium, MLive’s Peg McNichol reports, noting that more work is needed before the changes are finalized.
News of Note
Marshall Mayor Scott Wolfersberger confirmed to WWMT News Channel 3 that Marshall Police contacted members of city council, alerting them of a credible threat made against them due to an ongoing debate over a proposed data center. The council approved a one-year moratorium on new data center developments at its Aug. 3 meeting.
