WINDSOR, Ont. – The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and Canadian government officials gathered Friday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the planned opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, which is scheduled Monday.

The bridge had been scheduled to open in mid-June, but that was scrapped after President Donald Trump asserted that the deal for ownership, financing and bridge tolls — negotiated in 2012 between the Canadian government and the administration of then-Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, with federal approval under President Barack Obama — was a “bad deal” for the United States.
