Michigan Senate Democrats are expressing their enthusiasm at the possibility of the next Senate president being someone who already has experience leading the chamber following Democratic gubernatorial nominee and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s announcement of Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) as her running mate.

The role of lieutenant governor is often one of ceremonial leadership, both in the Senate chamber and outside of it — but Brinks seems to see her potential position as taking on a more significant role in promoting the agenda put forward by a Benson-Brinks administration.
