In August, Michigan Democrats will once again be asked to vote in a bellwether statewide election that could also determine the future electoral prospects of the national party.

Whether voters choose the progressive Abdul El-Sayed or center-left U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens of Birmingham on the Aug. 4 ballot could be a key determinant for whether Democrats or Republicans control the upper chamber of Congress for the next two years.
