On Tuesday, the University of Michigan took another step toward building a “high-performance research computing center” in Ypsilanti Township, announcing it had honed in on a preferred site for the project.

The university selected a 144-acre site on Textile Road for the facility, with the north side bordering the Huron River. The university says the facility, which it is developing with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, will greatly expand its computing capacity, allowing researchers to analyze massive datasets and model complex systems.
