BOZEMAN, Mont. — Montana State University plans to host a free public conference Oct. 1-2 in Bozeman centered on how artificial intelligence could change research, learning and public life.
According to an MSU News Service release, the campus event will require registration and include lunch, an evening reception, a light breakfast and coffee. More information and registration were available on the conference webpage.
The conference, called “The Future of AI,” was set to bring together MSU faculty and speakers from across the country. Organizers said the discussions would focus on how AI may shape creative work, research, public understanding and trust in information.
Organizers also planned moderated workshops so participants could talk directly with speakers. Those sessions were meant to help universities, nonprofits and businesses think through major questions tied to AI.
William Thomas, co-founder of the Institute on Artificial Intelligence and dean of MSU’s College of Letters and Science, said the conference would bring those conversations to Montana.
"We have a lot to learn about AI and its implications for Montana and the U.S.,” said William Thomas. “I'm excited we are bringing some of the world's leading AI scholars and thinkers to MSU. Anyone interested in AI will not want to miss this conference."
Guest speakers were listed as Edward L. Ayers of the University of Richmond, Tracy Camp of the Computing Research Association, Bruce Holsinger of the University of Virginia, Pietro Perona of the California Institute of Technology, Jeffrey Reed of Yellowstone Forever, Elham Tabassi of the Brookings Institution and Kate Zwaard of the Coalition of Networked Information.
