HELENA, Mont. - Governor Greg Gianforte issued a disaster declaration on Wednesday for severe flash flooding over the Fourth of July weekend. The governor's proclamation said public infrastructure was damaged and local businesses and residents were impacted as well.

"Montanans in Glasgow experienced sudden, intense flooding that damaged roads, disrupted daily life, and affected local businesses," Gianforte said. "This disaster declaration will help the community repair critical infrastructure more quickly and ensure local officials have the support they need to recover."

The mayor of Glasgow also declared a local disaster related to the storm and flooding impacts on July 23. Gianforte's office said the scope of the damages and associated costs exceeded what the City of Glasgow and Valley County are capable of covering on their own.

Under the state disaster declaration, state resources are authorized for use as well as spending from the general fund.
