'An absolute firefight' saved Maverick Mountain, Elkhorn Hot Springs from Sand Creek fire

JACKSON — Operations Section Chief Philip Knaub described Tuesday night’s response to the sprawling Sand Creek wildfire as a firefight.

He spoke Wednesday evening during a packed fire briefing at Jackson Elementary School about the Sand Creek and Bobcat Lakes wildfires. Nearly 80 people attended. The crowd included some of the people who’d evacuated their homes in the Grasshopper Valley when ordered to do so.
