We are between two of the most important holidays in the United States today: Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.

On May 25, Memorial Day, many of us reflected on the sacrifices made to first create our republic and then to preserve it for 250 years. On this Fourth of July, the anniversary of our nation’s creation, political angst and social unrest should cause us to view the future with a bit of unease — yet with some hope — about what might be required to sustain America.
