A local law firm and Red Lodge Mountain announced Monday a resolution to a potential wrongful death lawsuit after a 37-year-old Billings man died in March 2025 shortly after being injured during high winds on a ski lift.

A press release by law firm Heenan & Cook started by clarifying past reporting on the incident, noting that snowboarder Jeff Zinne wasn’t primarily injured because of a fall from the three-person chairlift during winds as high as 60 miles per hour. Rather, it was because of a derailment of a chairlift line, which led to equipment striking Zinne with "great force."
