Few would dispute that James Rosien poured his heart into The Anaconda Leader. The owner’s decision last month to abruptly shutter the twice-weekly seemingly did not diminish Rosien’s conviction that Anaconda needs and deserves a strong community newspaper.

He has toted a camera in recent weeks to newsworthy events in Anaconda-Deer Lodge County, including the separate unveilings of two statues of historical figures important to Anaconda — Phoebe Hearst and Marcus Daly.

James Rosien, former editor of The Anaconda Leader, has plans to work with a board of directors to launch a weekly nonprofit newspaper in Anaconda to fill the void left by the Leader's abrupt closing last month.
