Helena celebrated the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United Sates on Saturday by raising a new stars-and-stripes flag after a helicopter delivery to Centennial Park.

Now in its 13th year, the event hosted by the Old Glory Landmark Committee featured a Montana DNRC helicopter delivering a new 30-foot-by-50-foot American flag, which was raised by veterans and Boy Scouts.

This year's program was emceed by former Mayor Jim Smith. Current Mayor Emily Dean also shared remarks, and two local children led the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance.

There were bounce houses, the Balloon Man, free hot dogs, root bear floats and water, hand-out flags from the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a showcase of emergency vehicles. The Dan Henry Band played live music throughout the day.

More than 2,000 people attended the event, at which 1,800 hot dogs were consumed as well as 50 gallons of root beer floats.
