The Butte-Silver Bow Police Department has been made aware of recent drug overdoses that may be linked to cocaine that has become contaminated with fentanyl.
B-SB Sheriff Ed Lester said the reports have not yet been confirmed, but in the interest of public safety, an advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution.

“The Butte Police Department strongly discourages the use of any illicit drugs,” said Sheriff Lester. “Anyone who chooses to use street drugs should be aware that any illicit substance may be contaminated with fentanyl, which can be extremely dangerous and potentially fatal.”
Lester said if anyone suspects someone is experiencing an opioid overdose, call 911 immediately.
“Signs of an opioid overdose may include slowed or stopped breathing, unresponsiveness, inability to wake up, blue or gray lips or fingernails, choking or gurgling sounds, or extreme drowsiness,” he said.
The sheriff said if naloxone, also known as Narcan, is available, administer it as soon as possible and follow the instructions provided with the medication.
“Naloxone can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and may save a life,” he said. “Continue to monitor the person and provide assistance until emergency responders arrive.”
