Those who benefit most from lower taxes devote vast resources to fund think tanks, lobbyists and media to advocate for small government and low taxes. It is up to the rest of us to call out the “high cost” of small(er) government. Although U.S. wealth is exceptional, insufficient investment in public services means our health, educational attainment, and happiness are not.

Money talks even more loudly after the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. The voice of the many is smothered by the avalanche of funding from corporations and those with wealth seeking to lower taxes and shrink government.
