A 70-year-old Washington man was killed Wednesday afternoon when he crashed his motorcycle into a turning pickup truck on Highway 200 on the west side of Lincoln, according to officials.
The crash happened at 4:53 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 200 and Morris Drive, according to the Montana Highway Patrol and Lewis and Clark County Sheriff and Coroner Leo Dutton.
A driver in a pickup truck was westbound on Highway 200 and tried to make a left turn near the intersection, according to MHP. While turning south across the eastbound lane, the motorcyclist collided with the pickup.
The motorcycle driver died at the scene of blunt-force injuries, according to MHP and Dutton. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Dutton said, and was identified as Alan Dean Kief, 70, of Tacoma, Washington.
The driver of the pickup was not injured in the crash, according to the authorities.
Dutton said Kief was scheduled for an autopsy and toxicology screenings.
Both MHP and Dutton said Thursday the crash remains under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol.
“Our condolences to Mr. Kief’s family,” Dutton said in a statement.
