Yellowstone Club developer’s new plan puts ‘soul of Flathead Lake’ at stake, locals say

LAKESIDE — Call it a “Tale of Two Docks.”

Built beside each other, they both extend into the clear, cold water of Flathead Lake from the shore of this idyllic community — but they tell entirely different stories.

Discovery Land Co., the private developer behind the Yellowstone Club and Crazy Mountain Ranch, plans to build a dock as part of the Territory 1889 Golf and Lake Club near Lakeside.

Bruce Young, a longtime advocate of Flathead Lake, believes Territory 1889 represents an existential threat to both the Lakeside community as well as the Lake. “The soul of Flathead Lake is being fought over right now,” Young said.
