Philipsburg, Mont. — The Market on Broadway returned for its second summer in Philipsburg, bringing vendors, music and weekly activity to Pocket Park.
The market sits next to The Sweet Palace and opens every Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m. Shoppers can find food, clothes, jewelry and other items there.
Organizer Derek Campbell, who owns Moon River Ranch outside town, said he brought the market back last summer after a previous one had closed years earlier.
“We set up by ourselves. [Later,] we were able to get a lease on the park here and we figured if we were here, we might as well bring in other people and make an event out of it,” he said.
They also bring in live music for the crowds of both locals and tourists.
Suzy Inman, owner of Fairy Face Painting & Western Fairy Art, is in the midst of her first summer at the market.
“It's been lovely, all the people are amazing, and I really like the Philipsburg vibe,” she said.
She said some customers had tried to push her creativity.
“I had a little girl come and ask me for an alien eating butter,” Inman said. “I did an alien eating butter, and it was really fun. It was something very odd.”
Campbell said the summer has been busy with strong customer traffic.
“I really enjoy all the people coming through. We get people from all over the world here in Philipsburg,” Campbell said. “They come in, they look at all the cool stuff in the market here, at our produce and just getting to talk to them and see what brought them here.”
The market's last day is set for September 13. However, Moon River Ranch plans to keep selling vegetables there through October.
