THREE FORKS, Mont. – City officials warned the community on Tuesday about a scam targeting applicants for zoning permits or grant awardees. Scammers are reportedly sending fake invoices that claim to be from the city and demand money from the targeted recipients.
“We require payment for services UP FRONT, not after a decision has been made,” Three Forks officials stated. “These emails look pretty professional. They utilize the City seal, name specifics from the application, provide the applicant’s contact information.”
Anyone who receives an email or invoice claiming they owe money to the city is urged to contact 406-285-3431 for confirmation. Officials noted that water/sewer bills are typically the only invoices or emails sent by the city that require payment.
