OMAHA — A former University of Nebraska regent will spend at least the next six months in jail for driving under the influence and causing serious bodily injury during a May 2025 crash.

Douglas County District Judge Jeffrey Lux on Monday sentenced Elizabeth O’Connor of Omaha to one year behind bars. Under Nebraska’s “good time” law, Lux said, O’Connor could be released for good behavior after serving half her sentence. Lux also sentenced O’Connor to 18 months of post-release supervision, which is similar to probation. She was credited with one day of time served from the night she was arrested in July 2025.
