(The Center Square) – For the first time in nine weeks, the net total of voter registrations increasing in North Carolina was shy of the net increase for those choosing independence of any party.

The unaffiliated bloc rose 3,955 in the last seven days, according to public records of the State Board of Elections researched by The Center Square. Total registrations were up 3,782. Republicans lost 158 registrations and Democrats declined 13.
