Oregonians in 12 counties who lost their federal food assistance in July because of a wildfire evacuation can request replacement benefits until Aug. 14.Â
As wildfires ravage across Oregon this summer andsurpassthe state’s wildfire acreage record, the human services department extended the deadline for people receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits whose food was lost or spoiled after fleeing July wildfires.Â
Households in the following counties have until Aug. 14 to report their food losses to the Oregon Department of Human Services:Â
Baker
Crook
Deschutes
Gilliam
Harney
Jackson
Jefferson
Sherman
Umatilla
Union
Wasco
Wheeler
Oregonians usually have 10 days to report their food benefits lost in natural disasters. After the Aug. 14 deadline, the department will revert back to the 10-day reporting rule.
Oregonians can request SNAP replacement benefits by calling 800-699-9075, visiting a local department of human servicesofficeor filling out a replacement requestformon their One Online accounts or by mail to P.O. Box 14015, Salem, OR, 98309.
Families will see their benefits replacements added to their Electronic Benefits Transfer cards. The maximum replacement amount is the cost of the food lost.Â
