The former Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Dauphin County is meeting milestones in its relicensing process and on track to begin producing electricity again by the middle of next year, federal regulators said.

But during a public meeting Tuesday about emergency preparedness and environmental reviews, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) officials also worked to assuage fears, some fueled by memories of the plant’s 1979 partial meltdown that upended life in the capital region.
