Hidden in a maze of tree-lined creeks and flood channels on the Susquehanna River’s West Branch, the fields of Muncy Farms are set apart from the modern world. 

Guiding his red farm truck along a rutted tractor path, John Schaeffer points out waterfowl and wildlife on the margins of the fields, planted with rows of dusky green broccoli sprouts stretching into the summer haze. He stops near the riverbank, recalling the riverbed there is a massive stone slab.
