ADA, Okla. (KTEN) - “We’ve been overlooked, I’m not going to lie. We’ve been overlooked this whole time, all summer. We’re ready to shove these expectations and surpass what everybody’s been talking about us.”
“Last year we came out of Elgin, we got beat and I don’t like to be beat, I am a competitive person. It left a bad, sour taste in my mouth and I’m ready to get back at it and go chase for a gold ball.”
Ada’s last state championship win was back in 1996 but the Cougs feel like every year, they can compete to bring one back home.
“There’s one expectation and it’s to win a gold ball. It’s always been the expectation here, it hasn’t been done in a long time but I feel like we’ve got the group that can do it.”
“Ada has expectations to bring and those are gold balls and we expect to bring one this year. We have a hard working senior class and a bunch of underclassmen that want it and we want it as a team. I feel like we have good team chemistry and it is going to be a great year for us.”
“The goal for the team is just to be as successful as we can be and show up everyday and give everything that we have and let the chips fall where they may. The expectation is high for this group.”
And this group of kids is without one big name, their quarterback from last season and the coach's son, Brock Boyles, who moved on the the collegiate level right down the road at ECU. It’s a tough transition for Coach Boyles but he’s found the guy to fill into Brock’s shoes.
“Well it's been difficult at times, he’s been on the sidelines with me since he was three years old, but it’s exciting to see him in his new adventure at East Central and watch him be successful. To see a new guy step in and take that role is exciting as well. Hunter has done a fantastic job of taking that rein and running with it and making it his own and that’s what I am excited about is the future of Hunter at that position and what he brings to the table for us.”
Ada opens up their season on the road against Durant on August 28th.
