GARLAND, Texas - A 5-year-old girl died Tuesday night after being left inside a hot vehicle outside a home in Garland, Texas.
Garland ISD confirmed the child was a new student in the district. School officials said that crisis counselors are available on campus to support students and staff during this time.
First responders arrived at the scene around 8:20 p.m. after receiving a medical emergency call. Emergency personnel provided CPR and rushed the girl to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators said an adult family member had returned home from school with the 5-year-old and another child. After realizing the young girl was missing, family members searched the property, found her unresponsive inside the car, called 911, and began emergency resuscitation efforts.
Garland police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. No charges have been filed.
