Davis is on the hunt for their eighth state title

“Edmond is always the expectation, especially here. And to come up short, it definitely left a sour taste not only in my mouth but in everyone else’s.”

The Wolves offense, led by four-year starter Dax Owens at quarterback, will take a bigger leap this fall after replacing all five starting linemen last year. Expect a stronger bridge in the triple option.

“You know Dax, he’s a special guy. He’s a great leader of our football team. But he, like everyone else, knows that it starts up front with us, and we have some experience now.” 

“They are all really good players, and just with that year under their belts, it makes a difference. We’ve been playing together. I think we are growing closer together, and those are my guys up there.”

“It’s the same old, same old. It’s the Davis football; we’re going to hit you in the mouth and expect you to try to take it for four quarters 

Coach Dusty Raper returns in year two of commanding the Wolves' defense. Last season, Davis recorded four shutouts and allowed only 14.5 points per game. And if last year's numbers are any indication, that defense should be ferocious again. 

“Defensively, we’ve got a lot of returners. We’ve got a lot of four-year players on defense. We’re fairly fast, and if we can chase the ball, make sure we are getting better and just really buy in to what coach Raper is teaching”

“See ball, get ball. We just want to go out and play our hardest, really. Defense is just flying around, is the main thing. 

Realignment brings new Southeastern Oklahoma opponents this season, while Dibble returns to the district after handing Davis its only district loss last year. But inside the Wolves' locker room, the focus hasn't changed. 

“We don’t really put too much thought into that. We just expect to go out every Friday and give them the best brand of Davis football that we can. I know whoever it is, we are going to compete. They are going to expect a battle, and we are going to expect one too.”
